Indochina Excursions

Do you run shared group tours or only private ones?

The plans on this site are written for one private party with its own vehicle. On Ha Long Bay the boat can be shared or private; the excursion page explains the difference.

Can I see a price before I send my dates?

Not a fixed one. Party size, boat type and pickup location change the total more than anything else. Send the form and we reply by email with a quote for your exact day.

Which cities do you start from?

Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An and Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Luang Prabang and Vientiane, plus the four Vietnamese cruise ports. Six excursions have full pages; the planner lists more.

Is a day trip to Ha Long Bay from Hanoi worth it?

It works if you accept a 12 to 13.5 hour day with five to six hours on the road. If you can spare a night, an overnight boat gives you more time on the water than in the van.

Excursions

Why do you show a pickup window instead of a fixed time?

Because hotels in the same city can be far apart in morning traffic. We fix the exact time when we know your address, and it stays inside the window shown.

Can two excursions be combined into one day?

Sometimes. My Son in the morning and a Hoi An afternoon works; Ha Long and Ninh Binh in one day does not. The planner page lists pairs that share a road.

Are entrance fees included in your price?

Yes for the sites written into the plan, except the Angkor Pass, which you buy in your own name. We list each fee with its source so you can see what it is, and fees can change before you travel.

Do you have excursions from Hue, Phnom Penh or Vientiane?

Not as full pages yet. The planner lists sourced day-trip options from those cities and we write a plan on request.

Ha Long Bay day cruise

How long is the drive from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay?

Port and travel guides give 2.5 to 3 hours each way by road. We plan on the upper figure and add margin for Friday and holiday traffic on the return.

Is a shared day boat crowded?

It carries other passengers on the same licensed route, so expect company at the cave and the lagoon. A private boat gives you the deck to yourselves but follows the same route rules.

What happens if the boats are stopped for a storm?

The boat part cannot run. We offer a different date or switch you to the Ninh Binh excursion; the terms for changes are in the booking terms we send with the quote.

Can we swim?

Only where the route allows it, and the permission can change on the day. Bring swimwear if you want the option, but do not plan the day around it.

Trang An and Hoa Lu day trip

Which Trang An boat route should we choose?

Route 2 is the balanced choice for a first visit. Route 1 adds temples, route 3 adds caves. All three take two to three hours from the same station.

Is Trang An the same as Tam Coc?

Both sit inside the same UNESCO listing and share the landscape. Trang An has the longer cave routes; Tam Coc is a shorter river trip near the town. We pick one per day, not both.

Can children do this day?

Yes, it is gentler than Ha Long: two hours of road each way and a child ticket on the boat. Small children need a hat and sun cover; ask us to confirm child-size life jackets for your date.

What if it rains?

Light rain does not stop the boats; rain capes are carried. In a thunderstorm the station can hold boats, and we move the boat section around it where we can.

My Son half day

What time does My Son open?

The management board publishes 06:00 to 17:00, every day including public holidays. We aim to arrive at opening.

How much is the ticket?

The board's published price for foreign visitors is VND 150,000, including on-site services. It is part of our quote; fees can change, so check before you travel.

Is the dance show worth staying for?

It is short and adds context to the carvings you have just seen. With the 06:00 start, the 09:45 show fits without delaying the return much.

Can we go back to Hoi An by boat?

A river return on the Thu Bon can be arranged on request; it adds time and depends on water levels. Ask when you send the form and we will tell you whether it fits your date.

Cu Chi and Mekong, 2 days

Can Cu Chi and the Mekong really not be done in one day?

They can if the Mekong part is a stop close to the city. The Cai Rang market near Can Tho is about four hours from Ho Chi Minh City and is an early-morning market, so a one-day version misses it.

Ben Dinh or Ben Duoc?

Ben Dinh is closer and busier; Ben Duoc is further and usually quieter. We use Ben Duoc unless you ask for Ben Dinh.

Do I have to go into the tunnels?

No. The underground section is optional and you can see a great deal above ground.

Can we end at the airport on day two?

Yes, if the flight leaves late enough. Send the flight time and we plan backwards from check-in.

Angkor sunrise and small circuit

What time does Angkor open for sunrise?

The official ticket seller lists park entry from 05:00. Sunrise falls between roughly 05:30 and 06:20 depending on the month; we set the pickup from your date.

Is the Angkor Pass included?

No. It is personal and you buy it in your own name from the official seller, online or at the ticket office. We tell you which length suits your days.

Can children go up to the upper level of Angkor Wat?

Children under 12 are not admitted to the upper level (Bakan), according to guide sources. The rest of the circuit is fine for children who can walk several kilometres.

Car or tuk-tuk?

A car is cooler and better before dawn. A tuk-tuk is more open and fine for short hops in the dry season. Both are private to your party.

Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si

How long is the boat to Pak Ou?

About two hours upstream and about one hour back downstream, according to the sources we use. High water in the wet season can make the upstream leg slower.

Can we swim at Kuang Si?

Yes, where the signs allow it. Bring swimwear and a towel, and cover up again away from the water.

Why is Kuang Si brown in the photos some people post?

Wet-season rain carries sediment into the pools. The clearest water is reported from December to May.

Do we have to stop at the whisky village?

No. Many boats stop there because operators earn commission; our plan leaves it out unless you ask for it.

Prices

Why is your quote higher than a tour I saw elsewhere?

Usually because ours is private, includes every fee, and has no commission stops. Compare the inclusions line by line; the section on how cheaper excursions are made cheaper lists the common differences.

Is the price per person or per party?

We quote one total for your party and show the per-person figure beside it.

Are entrance fees included?

Yes, for every site written into the plan, except the Angkor Pass, which is personal and bought by you.

Do children pay less?

Some sites charge less or nothing for children, and those savings pass through. The vehicle and guide cost the same, so the total drops less than you might expect.

How to book

How far ahead should I book?

A week is usually enough outside the holiday periods. Around the Lunar New Year, boats and vehicles sell out earlier, so book as soon as your dates are fixed.

Can I book for the next day?

Sometimes. Send the form and we tell you whether a vehicle, guide and boat are available.

Do you take bookings by phone or messaging apps?

No. Bookings are made by form and email so that the plan is in writing.

What if my ship arrives late?

We plan from the confirmed arrival and all-aboard times and shorten the day from the cut list. The shore excursions page explains how.

Starting cities

Which city has the most day trips within two hours?

Siem Reap, because the main Angkor temples are a short drive from town; we allow 20–30 minutes. Hanoi has the widest range, but the well-known trips are two hours or more away.

Do you cover Hue as a starting city?

We plan day trips from Hue on request. The planner lists sourced travel times; a full Hue page is not yet published.

Is Da Nang or Hoi An the better base?

Hoi An for My Son and the old town in the evening; Da Nang for the airport and the cruise port. They are about an hour apart by road.

Can I start in one city and end in another?

Yes, on two-to-three-day excursions. Send both cities and we plan a one-way route.

Hanoi

Ha Long Bay or Ninh Binh for one day from Hanoi?

Ninh Binh if you want less road: about two hours each way. Ha Long if open water matters more than five to six hours in a car.

Can I do Ha Long and Ninh Binh on the same day?

No. They are in different directions from Hanoi and each takes a full day.

What time do Hanoi day trips leave?

Between 07:30 and 08:00 for both. Return is 17:30 to 19:00 from Ninh Binh and 19:30 to 21:00 from Ha Long.

Which months should I avoid?

July and August bring heat and storms; Ha Long boats are stopped whenever a storm warning is in force.

Read in full: Hanoi.

Hoi An and Da Nang

How far is My Son from Hoi An?

About 40 km; we plan around an hour by road. The site opens at 06:00; we aim to arrive then.

Can I do Hue as a day trip from Hoi An?

Yes, but it is about two hours each way from Da Nang and longer from Hoi An. A night in Hue is the better plan if you can.

When is the rainy season?

Around Hoi An, rainy days and storms from October to January. Hue often floods from October to late in the year.

Hoi An or Da Nang as a base?

Hoi An for My Son and evenings in the old town; Da Nang for the airport, the cruise port and the beach.

Read in full: Hoi An and Da Nang.

Ho Chi Minh City

How far is Cu Chi from Ho Chi Minh City?

About 60 km. We plan 1.5 to 2 hours each way in morning traffic.

Can I see the floating market on a day trip?

Not the Cai Rang market at Can Tho. It is about four hours away and busiest early in the morning; it needs a night there.

Which months suit the delta?

December and January are the coolest. Rain falls regularly from July to November.

Can I fly out from Can Tho?

Can Tho has an airport about 20 minutes from the city, which can save the drive back.

Read in full: Ho Chi Minh City.

Siem Reap

Which Angkor Pass should I buy?

One day if you have one day. Three days (USD 62, used within seven) suits most visitors and lets you spread the temples across mornings.

What time do the temples open?

The official seller lists park entry from 05:00 to 18:30. The upper level of Angkor Wat opens later and closes on Buddhist holy days.

How far is Banteay Srei?

About 25 km north-east of the main group of temples, according to the official seller. It makes a half day or pairs with Kbal Spean.

When is it too hot?

March to May. Plan to be out of the sun by early afternoon.

Day-trip planner

Are the pickup times in the planner fixed?

No. They are planning windows built from opening hours and travel times. The exact pickup is set when we know your hotel and date.

Why do some rows cite a blog or an agency?

Because no official source publishes those travel times. We label them, use the longer figure when sources disagree, and you should check before you travel.

Which day trips should not be combined?

Ha Long and Ninh Binh, and Cu Chi with the Can Tho market. Each pair lies too far apart for one day.

How often is the planner checked?

Each section shows the date we read the sources. When a source changes, we update the row and the date.

Shore excursions

How much time should we leave before all-aboard?

We keep 90 minutes, following port guidance that the ship will not wait for independent travellers. With a tender, add the queue.

Can we see Hanoi from Ha Long port?

Only with a long call. The drive is 2.5 to 3 hours each way, so a port day leaves little time in Hanoi itself. We suggest the bay instead.

Is Hue reachable from Chan May?

Yes, with nine or more hours ashore. Sources give between 1 hour 20 minutes and 2.5 hours each way; we plan on the longer time.

What if our ship arrives late?

We shorten the day from the cut list in your plan and keep the margin before all-aboard intact.

About

Are your excursions private?

Yes. Each plan is for one party with its own vehicle and guide. On Ha Long Bay the boat can be shared or private.

Do you sell multi-country tours?

No. We plan day trips and excursions of up to three days that start from a city.

Why do you cite blogs and agencies for some times?

Because no official body publishes those travel times. We label the source type and plan on the longer figure when sources disagree.

Can I ask questions before I book?

Yes. Ask in the form and we answer in writing before you commit to anything.

Read in full: About.
